Alexander Ørken
Alexander Ørken is an artist based in Aarhus. His work moves in the field of tension between the abstract and the narrative, where the works do not provide fixed answers, but open up for the viewer's own interpretation.
With a calm, Nordic color language and fine line drawings, he creates compositions that revolve around the human, the vulnerable and that which cannot be said directly.
Kunstnerisk praksis
Ørken's works emerge in the encounter between the intuitive and the reflected. The color fields are laid in calm, balanced tones, while line drawings break the surface, hinting at figures, situations, and traces of narratives.
It is in this tension that the works find their form — between control and dissolution, between structure and movement.
There is rarely one clear narrative. Instead, a space is created where the viewer must complete something in the encounter with the work.
Temaer
Thematically, Ørken revolves around the human in its complexity.
His works can be both personal and societal. They explore vulnerability, uncertainty, and what lies between people – what cannot always be said directly, yet is still felt.
Several works bear traces of relationships, identity, and movement, but without locking down the meaning. It is precisely this openness that is central.
Materiale og udtryk
Working with acrylic on canvas allows for both precision and spontaneity.
The colours are often subdued and Nordic in tone, while contrasts and lines create an underlying disquiet. The line functions as a kind of visual thought – a way of hinting without defining.
It is in the balance between the calm and the restless that the works acquire their character.
